Juneteenth – A Celebration of Freedom

The Center for African American History, Art & Culture (The Center), and the City of Aiken will host Aiken's 2023 Juneteenth Celebration on Monday, June 19 through Saturday, June 24.  Join us in honoring this important moment in African American history – we look forward to seeing you there! Here is a schedule of the week long event that will be held at the Center for African American History, Art & Culture located on 120 York St NE.

Monday, June 19: Juneteenth Open House and Kickoff. The open house is from 11 am to 2 pm, and will be an opportunity for Juneteenth sponsors and professional organizations to come tour the building and network.

Tuesday, June 20: Juneteenth Paint & Sip. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth and unleash your inner artist. You can purchase tickets today by calling 803-502-4858. Paint and Sip will start at 6 pm on the first floor at the Center. The cost is $45 and includes all supplies and wine, and the image below is the subject that will be painted.

Wednesday, June 21: Juneteenth Cocktails and Conversations. This exclusive corporate networking event is dedicated to fundraising for the Center and is from 11 am – 2 pm. Donations are highly appreciated and a cash bar will be available.

Thursday, June 22: Juneteenth Greek Night. Celebrate the “Divine Nine” at 6 pm. Enjoy games, presentations, food, and learn about the organizations rooted in the African American culture and the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Friday, June 23: Juneteenth Movie Night. “Ruby Bridges” by director Euzhan Paley will start at 6 pm. This family night will open the dialogue surrounding the integration of public schools in America.

Saturday, June 24: Juneteeth Celebration. Join the Center and the City of Aiken from noon to 3 pm as we celebrate in Founders Park for Aiken's 2023 Juneteenth Celebration. Experience a brief history of Juneteenth, music by Mac Arnold and Plate Full O'Blues, and vendors.
