CITY OF AIKEN VISITORS CENTER AND TRAIN MUSEUM SATURDAY, MAY 11 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

All aboard for fun! National Train Day, an annual holiday celebrating the impact trains have had on our Nation, will be held at the Aiken Visitors Center and Train Museum 406 Park Avenue SE on Saturday, May 11th from 10 am to 2 pm.

Everyone will love taking a ride around Gyles Park on our amazing trackless train! Enjoy live music, model railroad displays, games, a raffle, our first annual “Freight Yard Sale” featuring great deals on model train items for railroad enthusiasts, plus a free children’s model railroad workshop sponsored by the Aiken Model Railroad Club. In addition, Mother Goose will be donning her conductor’s hat to read a great selection of railroad themed storybooks!

Event admission is free. Trackless train rides are $2. Great food will be available from Beefed Up!, Chick-fil-A, and Flanigan’s Ice Cream.

Don’t forget to take a tour of our freshly painted 1918 Illinois Central Pullman car, where you’ll find a great collection of never-before-seen railroad artifacts and a model railroad with literal bells and whistles! “National Train Day is a great way to have fun and learn about how the railroad shaped our community,” says Sam Ellis, Museum Coordinator at the Aiken Train Museum.

National Train Day would not be possible without support from the Friends of the Aiken Railroad Depot. All proceeds from the gift shop and Freight Yard Sale go to the Friends of the Aiken Railroad Depot.

The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism invites people of all ability levels to enjoy programs, parks, and facilities. Individuals needing special assistance to participate should notify PRT Administrative Office 48 hours in advance.
