Join Aiken Land Conservancy Executive Director Peter Kleinhenz, on a hike to the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve. Peter will lead participants on a 3-mile walk to observe this incredible example of longleaf pine savanna just outside of Aiken. We will observe signs of gopher tortoises, if not the tortoises themselves, and will search for other unique species that call this property home.
No RSVP is required. Simply show up at the trailhead at 9 am. The hike is kid friendly. Bring youth with you, foster an appreciation for nature, and hopefully see a gopher tortoise in person.
Where: Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve, South entrance (with the informational kiosk)
When: Saturday, September 23, 9-11 am
What to Bring: Water, sturdy shoes, binoculars and a camera (if you have them)
Trail Condition and Distance: Sandy trail/firebreak, 3 miles total
Executive Director Peter Kleinhenz will be offering a monthly walk at a different conservation property between September and May.
