ABOUT THE PROGRAM In June of 2017, the Aiken Center for the Arts (ACA) piloted the Art and Music Camp for Special Needs Children, a program offering creative and artistic opportunities for children with traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy or other physical and developmental disabilities in Aiken County. Adaptable art and music programs enable campers ages 5-13 to express their creativity.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Carter Boucher will serve as our instructor for the third year of this program. Carter is a visual artist, writer, and musician. He is an Arts Access SC master artist and has been an active artist in residence through the South Carolina Arts Commission since 1981. His residencies have included students with cognitive disabilities as well as gifted and talented students.
LASTING IMPACT For the children involved in the program, the anticipated benefits include the opportunity for a success-oriented creative outlet, social interaction with other children and adults, and the positive self-esteem gained from having their work displayed at the Arts Center.
