Aiken Choral Society proudly presents “Bluegrass and Ragtime,” a performance of American composers representing America’s contribution to the world of music.

Join us on Sunday, May 7, 2023, 4pm, at Aiken’s First Baptist Church and listen to the unique sounds of bluegrass and ragtime in pieces by Carol Barnett, William Billings, Moses Hogan, Scott Joplin, and Aaron Copland.  Under the direction of Dr. Maureen Simpson and accompanied by David Brown at the piano,  our featured piece, The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass transforms the traditional mass in ways you never imagined.  As composer Carol Barnett puts it, the piece brings “the solemnity of the classical choir-based mass together with the down-home sparkle of bluegrass.”   Put the date on your calendar and treat yourself to this unique performance.

Free to the public; however, donations are welcomed as Aiken Choral Society is a 501 (3)(C) public charity. Funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
