The Center for African American History, Art and Culture in Aiken, SC invites the community to their 2nd Annual Celebration of African American Excellence on September 14. The program will begin at 6 p.m. and is set to be held in the Grand Room of the center which is located on 120 York St., NE. Tickets are being sold for $25.
Victoria Smalls, a public historian and educator, arts advocate, and cultural preservationist is the keynote speaker at this business casual event. After years of reconstructing and renovating the historical Immanuel Institute building, the Center for African American History, Art and Culture will present their completed first floor to those in attendance. A temporary exhibit that illustrates Aiken’s involvement in the civil rights movement will be on display. Selected individuals will receive the Dugas-Cole Award for Excellence, recognizing their good works in the community.
